Coriole’s Poets and Pizza event has been celebrating and supporting South Australian poets since 2005. This year we are looking forward to live readings from Nigel Ford, Christina Haack, Alison Bennett and long term Coriole favourite Jude Aquilina.

Nigel Ford is a crew-cut haired, goatie bearded, tattooed wanna be biker poet who would go to the opening of a bottle of beer even if he wasn’t invited.Nigel Ford is a multiple poetry slam winner, including the 2015 Darwin Poetry Cup & the 2012 Australian Poetry Festival Slam. Nigel is the Convenor of & Regional Community Development Manager for Friendly Street Poets & the Organiser & MC of Poetry On The Fleurieu & the Goolwa Poetry Cup, SA’s biggest Prizemoney poetry slam & other events throughout SA. Nigel has featured at poetry events in SA, NT, Victoria & Queensland & has been published in anthologies in SA, NT & Queensland.
Christina Haack is a self-confessed word nerd who rarely stops talking. Accidentally discovering her talent for performance poetry in the Victor Harbour RSL in a low key slam event in 2013, she went on to win the inaugural Goolwa Poetry Cup in November of the same year. In 2015 she was the People’s Choice award winner in the same competition. Christina’s poetry is loud, verbose, outrageous and she has great delight in poking fun at recurring themes, each time upping the verbal ante to bring her just that little bit closer to being struck down by umbrage induced lightning. She has been called by some ‘the love child of Pam Ayres and Tim Minchin.’ Not afraid of any topic, she has a ‘take no prisoners’ attitude when writing about herself. She then takes great joy in lining up the rest of humanity for a dose of the same medicine.
Alison Bennett a Poet and Spoken Word Performer from Adelaide, SA. In 2016, Alison won the SA Poetry Slam, and went on to perform as a National finalist for Australian Poetry Slam at The Sydney Opera House. She has performed as a feature poet for Paroxysm Press, Draw Your (S)words, The Hearth Collective, SA Writers Centre, and was recently invited to present to students at Adelaide College of The Arts. When Alison is not unscrambling scrawlings on scraps of paper littering her floors, she writes and performs darkly emotive poetry involving her experiences through a lifetime of illness. She also enjoys writing comedic rhymes with lots of swear words. Alison lives in Adelaide with a growing collection of books she never gets time to read and a folder of tattoo ideas that she can’t afford to get done. Alison likes the smell of trains in cold weather and has recently taken up singing lessons in the hope of one day fulfilling her latent desire to front a punk band.
