Membership

Friendly Street Poets currently has a membership base of more than 860 financial members in the 2009/2010 financial year.

To become a member of Friendly Street Poets simply complete a membership form at the door of either a monthly meeting or another official Friendly Street Poets meetings. Pay the annual membership fee of $4.00 concession or $5.00 waged. Please note that this fee is included in the cost of attendance at a meeting and is not payable as a separate amount.

Friendly Street Poets invites all poets to participate in Friendly Street poetry readings and other activities.

Members of Friendly Street have the following entitlements:

  • to vote at an AGM;
  • to stand for a position on the Friendly Street Board of Management;
  • to attend Friendly Street Poets Meetings and to read their own original poems for 3 minutes at an open microphone, upon payment of the entry fee.
  • to request one of two 4 minute spots (one in each half) allocated at each City meeting for the purpose of reading a single long poem;
  • to submit those poems read at an official Friendly Street Poets meeting in the Readers’ Box. Those poems are eligible to be selected by our editors for inclusion in the annual Friendly Street Poets’ Anthology;
  • to submit manuscripts to either the New Poets or the Single Poets publishing competitions (subject to submission guidelines);
  • to request a 5 minute promotional spot at a Friendly Street reading to promote a recently published poetry collection;
  • to attend REBELSLAM! perform for 3minutes, after payment of the entry fee; to be filmed with the member’s permission and placed on our You Tube TV Channel
  • to be invited to read at Friendly Street as a Guest Reader.
  • to nominate to be an editor of a Friendly Street Reader.
  • to attend our seminars and workshops and enter subsequent competitions
  • to receive notices of Friendly Street Poets activities

Non-Members:

  • can attend Friendly Street Poets Meetings as either a reader or member of the audience, upon payment of the door entry fee
  • can read their own original poems at the meeting after payment of the entry fee
  • cannot place their poems in the Readers Box, nor are those poems eligible to be considered for publication in the annual Reader.
  • can attend REBELSLAM! as an audience member, or perform for 3 minutes in the Slam, after payment of the door entry fee;
  • can neither be filmed on the night, nor subsequently placed on the REBELSLAM! You Tube Channel.
  • can submit manuscripts to either the New Poets or Single Poet publishing competitions (subject to the submission guidelines)
  • can attend our seminars and workshops and enter any subsequent competitions (subject to submission guidelines)

The Friendly Street Poets Board of Management has determined that members have the following additional entitlements:

  • To announce their own book launch details on the Friendly Street Poets meetings and post on the FRIENDLY STREET POETS Face book Site.
  • To announce  poetry readings of other poetry groups at the Friendly Street Poets meetings and post details on our Face book site.

The Friendly Street Poets Board allows no posting on our web site of advertising,  information materials or announcements from other groups or organisations. This web site is reserved for Friendly Street Poets information and notifications.
