SPIN – Southern Performers Interactive Network – has regular events in the Southern Suburbs, currently hosted at The Singing Gallery, 133 Main Road, McLaren Vale, on the 1st Wednesday of each month, 6:30 -9:00 pm. Open mic for poets and musicians, with featured performers. Curated by Deb Matthews-Zott. Keep in touch via the SPIN Facebook page.


Dead Poets’ Society, hosted by Dymocks bookshop, Rundle Mall, and Spoken Word SA on the second-last Thursday of each month, beginning at 6:00pm. A local poet presents the work of a (dead) poet that they admire, along with a relevant selection of their own work. There is an open mic, as long as you also read a poem by the dead poet of the night… Dymocks offers a range of books by the poet of the night, and there are free drinks and snacks.


The Lee Marvin Readings are hosted by Ken Bolton at the Dark Horsey Bookshop at the Australian Experimental Art Foundation, Lion Arts Centre. Running on Tuesday nights every second month, the readings feature three or four authors reading new poetry or prose. Entry is $5 and includes wine and soft drink, as well as a discount on any books purchased on the night. See their website for schedules or sign up for their email list.

Spoke n Slurred, hosted by Paroxysm Press, last Sunday of every month at The Coffee Pot, James Place, off Rundle Mall. Doors open at 5:00pm for 6:00 pm start. Usually a featured poet or two, plus open mic. Free entry, cheap drinks (no coffee…) with raffle prizes.
