New Poets 21 winners announced

The Friendly Street New Poets series of books has been the launching pad for many well-recognised and successful poets in SA who have gone on to make wonderful contributions to poetry here in Australia and overseas. Nineteen submissions were received for the New Poets 21 competition this year, six more than last year, which is pleasing to see in this time of limited poetry opportunity.

The judge for this competition was Kaye Aldenhoven, an Adelaide born, Darwin based writer and poet with 3 books of poetry published. Kaye has been shortlisted for prose and poetry multiple times in the NT Literature Awards and won 2 Red Earth Poetry Awards.… Click for more

Poems of the Month: March & May

COVID-19 has definitely thrown up some challenges this year but the editors are pleased to announce the Poems of the Month for March & May.

March

March was our second and to date last face-to-face meeting of 2020. 65 poems were read and the longlist for this month was really quiet long. It was an excellent selection to draw upon & there were many fine poems in the initial discussion. But we managed to get it down eventually. We liked so many we have noted three Highly Commended poems. The challenging thing was how completely different each of the final 4 poems are yet each so strong in their own way.… Click for more

A Note from the Treasurer

Friendly Street Poets financially strong despite COVID-19

I hope all members are keeping well during our suspension of monthly meetings. Remember that not all activities are suspended and, in particular, you can submit via the website HERE to have poems considered by the editors for inclusion in the FSP Anthology #45.

The shutdown is having an effect on FSP’s financial situation, but we remain strong. With no monthly First-Monday meetings, we are, of course, not collecting door entries. These add up to 15-20% of annual revenue, so they are important. We are likely to miss out on these for most of this year.  … Click for more

FSP Anthology 45 on-line poetry submissions – updated

The annual anthology publishes a selection of poems by FSP members. Normally, all original poems read by members of Friendly Street Poets at an official FSP meeting, whether in the city or at a regional centre, are eligible to be selected for publication in the anthology. However, with face to face meetings cancelled for the foreseeable future, obviously this year will be slightly different. Poems submitted at the in-person meetings already held remain eligible, but for (most likely) some months at least, we will be accepting digital submissions.

To submit to our Annual Anthology 45 you must do so here via the Submission Form below.… Click for more
