Competition Rules
Sign-in opens at 11.30 am on Sunday 18th November, 2018. $10 to enter payable at sign-in.
Poets must be at the event & registered BEFORE Heat 1, as the names will go into a hat & be drawn out randomly. Heat 1 will start at 12.15 pm.
You will need 2 x 2-minute poems, 1 for your Heat & a different poem for the Final, IF you make it.
In the event of a tie in the Final, a slam-off will take place with the slammers performing their Heat poem.
Poems MUST BE the poet’s own words. Pop references are allowed, but NO plagiarism!
The poems cannot have been performed at a previous Goolwa Poetry Cup. You CAN use poems performed at other comps & there is NO 12 month rule.
There are 3 Heats. They will follow 1 after the other, allowing time for the Judges to total the heat scores, so the event will not have a break until after Heat 3 is completed & the Finalists are announced. The top 3 scoring poets from each Heat will go through to the Final.
If 30 poets turn up, 10 poets will be drawn out for Heat 1 & Judges will score that heat, 10 poets will be drawn out for Heat 2 & Judges will score that heat & 10 poets will be drawn out for Heat 3 & Judges will score that heat.
The top 3 poets from each Heat will be announced after Heat 3 is completed & the Judges have totalled their scores. This method means all poets will find out at the same time if they have made it to the Final.
The People’s Choice Winner ($100) will be decided during the Heats & will go to the best poet who did NOT make it into the Final, but not announced until the Final’s result is announced.
