Details of coming Friendly Street Poets activities are posted here, commonly being about our readings at the Box Factory and affiliated venues. Our next reading is:
Monday 7th February at the Box Factory, Regent Street, Adelaide, from 6:00pm.
There are also other important matters covered in the posts from time to time, such as:
- that membership payments are due once more – and they actually are since they are based on a calendar year;
- announcements about when manuscripts can be submitted for publication;
- the poem that the editors of the next anthology have selected as Poem of the Month; and
- how many people we can accommodate at the Box Factory under the Covid guidelines.
When the attendance limit is imposed, as now, we need to ask people to register online beforehand, e.g. it applies for February, with a cap of 37. The registration form appears here.
With readings in mind and on behalf of the management committee, I would like to give special thanks for the work that Ian Gibbins and Jelena Dinic put in as they ran the spin-off Friendly Street reading events at the Halifax Café.
The Halifax Café readings are in hibernation now but we would like to talk with people interested in convening a revived series when we can have enough people there (we’re looking at you, Covid). It’s a great venue for good food, excellent poetry, and affable hosts!
Let’s hope that 2022 brings us a wealth of new poetry, opportunities for our members to hone their craft in reading out their poems in a supportive atmosphere, and for people to see some of their material published too.
My thanks to our editors (past and current) and the recent judges of submitted manuscripts, and also to my fellow committee members who keep the show rolling. One person deserves a second mention – Ian Gibbins is our web guru and we rely on him a great deal: thank you, Ian.
Have a great year and stay healthy. Look after yourselves and each other. Write lots!
