Monday 3rd December was the last Friendly Street Poets meeting at the Box Factory for 2024.
42 poets plus audience turned up for a fantastic evening to end the year on. Another 1st time reader came and shared their words. More poets from the past returned after some time away. Some classic poetry by long time stalwarts of FSP had us laughing loudly.
Thank you to this year’s Editors, Martha and Avalanche. Editing the next anthology is such a joy when the standard of poetry being submitted is so high.
The broadest, eclectic variety of poems read at our monthly open mic in the city gig is something I love and value about this collective of creatives who I feel are more like family sharing a passion than acquaintances who sit together occasionally. I couldn’t be happier to be a part of this group!
2025 sees a change of night for our city meetings.
We are moving from the first Monday of each month to the FIRST FRIDAY OF EACH MONTH, starting on 7th February.
We are still at the Box Factory. Only the night has changed. It’s no longer on a school or work night, so we might get a few more coming along and then popping into a local hotel afterwards for a beer or wine at the end of the night. I like that idea!
Thank you to the FSP Committee for performing the duties that enable South Australian poets to have a mic to read from and the opportunity to be published in our annual anthology.
Thank you especially to FSP Committee Members, Kristy and Fred for setting up the sound and seating at the venue and staffing the registration and book sales desks. Without your dedication to always being there Friendly Street Poets would struggle to exist.
And thanks to the rest of the FSP Committee, Erica, Veronica, David, Sue and Murray. 2024 has been a pleasure to work with you to ensure Friendly Street Poets enters its 50th Anniversary year with great promise for the future.
Nigel Ford, FSP Convenor
