Incoming Convenor, Steve Evans, thanked preceding Convenor, Nigel Ford, for all his hard work on behalf of FSP.
“Nigel Ford stepped down as Convenor of Friendly Street Poets at the AGM this month. He has contributed a great deal to the live poetry scene in South Australia and to Friendly Street as a key publisher of poetry there, including reviving the New Poets series of books that give emerging poets a chance to share space in a full-sized title. Apart from being an enthusiastic member of the committee in its planning and management role, he has been consistently active in taking care of regional poetry readings outside the city that connect FSP to poetry groups there, such as Poetry on the Fleurieu. Of course, there was also his inimitable MC-ing style at the monthly readings. It’s not a complete loss, however, since Nigel will continue as an ‘ordinary’ committee member and I bet we’ll be able to persuade him to MC occasionally. In the meantime, he’s off to the NT and warmer weather for a while… but we know he’ll be indulging in some poetic pursuits there too. Travel safely, Nigel, and thanks from all of us!”
