New Poets 23 launch at Halifax Cafe

Come along and celebrate the launch of New Poets 23, featuring the first published collections of poetry from Stephy Kate Dewan, Shaine Melrose and Heather Nimmo.

MC will be Nigel Ford. Judge, Heather Taylor Johnson will be there to share her feedback about the winning entries.

The winning poets will read selections of their work and copies of the New Poets 23 collection will be available to purchase on the night.

The Halifax Cafe will be open for food and beverages.

After a long COVID-19 induced lay-off, the FSP Featured Poets Series returns for a spectacular reprise, featuring four of Adelaide finest poets: Steve Brock, Alison Flett, Bronwyn Lovell and Ken Bolton.

This will be the last of these events curated by Jelena and Ian, so come early, stay late and enjoy the fabulous fare of the Halifax Cafe.

Due to the likelihood of on-going restrictions following the lock-down, we are obliged to cancel the July Featured Poets at Halifax session. Hopefully, we will be back in the final Thursday of September for a night to remember. Please keep an eye on the website and Facebook pages for updates.

Peter Goldsworthy‘s first collection of poetry won the Commonwealth Poetry Prize in 1982, the SA Premier’s Prize, and the Anne Elder Award. His second won the Australian Bicentennial Literary Prize for poetry in 1988, jointly with Philip Hodgins. He wrote the libretti for the Richard Mills operas, Summer of the Seventeenth Doll and Batavia, the latter winning Mills and Goldsworthy the 2002 Robert Helpmann Award for Best New Australian Work.… Click for more

Jill Jones was born in Sydney and has lived in Adelaide since 2008. She has published eleven full-length poetry books including Viva the Real (UQP), short-listed, 2019 Prime Minister’s Literary Awards, Breaking the Days (Whitmore Press), shortlisted, 2017 NSW Premier’s Literary Awards, and The Beautiful Anxiety (Puncher & Wattmann) winner, 2015 Victorian Premier’s Literary Award for Poetry.… Click for more

Mike Ladd is a poet, radio producer and essayist. He has published nine collections of poetry and prose, the most recent, Invisible Mending from Wakefield Press. He was the editor of ABC Radio National’s Poetica program, which ran for eighteen years and brought Australian and international poetry to a wide audience.… Click for more
